Iceland Country Church Weddings

The Icelandic Country Churches. Intimate, charming & unique.

The churches in Iceland are far from traditional, the Icelandic Country churches each have their personality and charm and the Pink Iceland team just loves planning weddings where the ceremony takes place in one of the Icelandic Country churches. More often than not the churches are very colourful on the inside, sporting orange, blue, green, yellow... all the colours which we think really enhances the wedding ceremony photos. Many of the churches are quite small so even though you don't have a big group of Iceland Wedding guests you won't feel like the place is too big, the ceremony whether shared just between the two of you or with guests will be intimate.

There are added bonuses when getting married in an Iceland country church, the privacy & no need for plan B if the weather is stormy. Most of our couples prefer some privacy when it comes to the actual wedding ceremony (although some don't really mind strangers celebrating their love from a distance :)) so when you are inside a church you are guaranteed it. Your Pink Iceland Wedding planner will stand guard making sure no one accidentally stumbles into the church or takes a peek through the windows. And in case of stormy weather you don't have to worry about it all since you have chosen an indoor plan A for your Iceland wedding.

The churches aren't few and far between, actually the opposite, there are many of them and most are in a unique and beautiful natural setting so you and your guests will enjoy the surroundings before and after the wedding.

The Pink Iceland Wedding planning team will give you recommendations for church weddings in Iceland. This is often based on your choice of Iceland Wedding photo locations, so for example if your dream is to have Iceland wedding photos at the Black beach near Vík we would suggest Skógar church or the church in Vík or if you are dreaming of Snæfellsnes peninsula Búðir Black church might be the church for you.

We would take care of booking the church for you and a minister to perform the ceremony, musician to play the ceremony, florist if you'd want to decorate some and of course a photographer & videographer to make sure you have those memories to take home and share.

After your Iceland Wedding Ceremony we'd love to take you around with your Wedding Photographer and get some amazing Iceland Wedding photos. Meanwhile your guests will be entertained by one of our Pink Iceland guides visiting beautiful places and sightseeing, you could meet up with them during the day or just catch up when it's time for your Iceland Wedding reception.

Enjoy these wedding photos from beautiful Iceland Church Weddings! What is your dream Iceland Wedding location??

Budir Black Church

Budir Black Church is located in the lava fields of Budir, it's actually in walking distance from Hotel Budir so if you and your guests are staying there, this is the perfect ceremony spot for you. Standing in the doorway of Budir Black Church you have amazing views over the lava field and on a clear day you can see the Snaefellsjokull glacier from there.

Þingvellir Church

In our beautiful National Park Thingvellir just 45 minutes drive from Reykjavik is the charming Thingvellir Church. Thingvellir is located where the tectonic plates are pulling a part so it was very fitting since the bride and groom come from the US and the UK that they, with their families would meet in the middle.

The Blue Church in Seyðisfjörður

This iconic church in the town of Seyðisfjörður has made a name for itself not only for the beautiful blue colour but also the rainbow road leading up to it. Seyðisfjörður is both a fjord and a town located in East Iceland, a long way away from the capital city of Reykjavik. Getting there by car is a beautiful drive, driving past waterfalls, volcanoes, glacier and endless beauty, so don't get discouraged if it's a bit further away. Also if you don't feel like driving we can help you book a flight to the nearby town of Egilsstaðir and then it's just a short drive to Seyðisfjörður, the flight is under an hour and the drive about 30 minutes. Everybay Studio shot the wedding of L&S.

Skogar Church

Skógakirkja Church is probably the most colourful of them all, on the inside. Looking at it from the outside it's quite modest but as soon as you enter it really gives you all the colours of the rainbow. The church is located within the open air museum of Skógar which has a lot of beautiful old Icelandic houses & turf houses as well as very close proximity to Skógafoss Waterfall. It's very conveniently located on the South Shore so after your Skogar church wedding you can travel to Reynisfjara Black Beach, Dyrholaey Peninsula & Seljalandsfoss waterfall to name a few.

Lakeside Church Úlfljótsvatnskirkja

Matt & Matt got married in Úlfljótsvatnskirkja, the Lakeside Country church that towers over Úlfljótsvatn lake on a small hill. Their Iceland Wedding photographer was Nordica Photography. This church is a short drive from Reykjavik, around an hour and afterwards our couples have hosted their Iceland Wedding receptions in the city or hotels near the church like the Ion Adventure Hotel.

Pink Iceland helps couples plan their weddings in Iceland no matter how big or small.

Same sex marriage has been legal in Iceland since June, 2010 and even though we're founded with the idea of serving LGBTQ+ guests we work with everyone, as long as people are nice! We love our jobs. We work amongst friends and get to meet fantastic people from all over the world. Being a destination wedding planner in Iceland can be challenging but it is so rewarding, you're inserted into peoples lives during some of their most joyous and stressful times and you get to be there for them and plan everything out seamlessly so their wedding day is perfect!

We'd love to hear from you and help you plan your Wedding in Iceland.
